AeA's Intervention

AeA started this project in 1987 with the goal of integral development of the marginalized in Ottapidaram and Pudukottai blocks

Objectives

  • To ensure quality education to all children in the age-group of 6-10 years

  • To give special care and attention to physically challenged and mainstream them in the developmental process

  • To initiate and to continue sustainable livelihood measures for the most marginalized sections

  • To empower the women in social, economic, cultural and political spheres of life

  • To ensure people's participation in all the developmental programs to sustain the interest of the program

Major Accomplishments

a. Overall

  • Quality education has been delivered to all children in project area

  • Sustainable livelihood support rendered to 100 people

  • Nearly 2650 women have been organized in groups and empowered to take up development initiatives

  • 36 disabled children have been provided support and assistance

  • Education and play materials were ensured in 87 schools and 70 balwadis

  • Linkages developed with banks and loans to the tune of Rs.1.5 crores have been raised

b. Specific to 2005 

  • Teaching-learning material and play material ensured for 6900 children in 87 schools

  • Establishment of sports complex in 8 schools

  • Training provided to 157 teachers on teaching skills

Main Activities for 2006

Quality Education

  • Training to volunteers on village education report and school improvement plans

  • Exposure to school children with the support of community

  • Strengthen 64 Village Education Development Committees through trainings on child-centered education, enrollment of girl children and other empowerment initiatives

  • Facilitate the Village Education Development Committees to develop SIPs for face lifting of schools and mobile resource for school improvement

  • Workshop for Panchayat Raj Institutions, government officials, school teachers and the community to bridge the gap among them and share school implementation plans

Inclusive Education

  • Survey to identify all children, women and men with disabilities in the project area

  • Organizing 2 assessment camps for certification in linkages with Sarva Siksha Abhiyan

  • Procurement of aids and appliances through Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and government resources

Women's Empowerment and Education

  • Initiating micro-enterPanchayat Raj Institutionse development for the members of 118 women Self Help Groups

  • Facilitating 118 Self Help Groups to get linked with banks and district industrial centers

  • Organising training and capacity building programs for 1887 members of self help groups on leadership, awareness building, sustainable agriculture, environment education and entrepreneurship development

  • Networking the women groups into panchayat and block level federations

Resource Mobilisation

  • Conducting campaigns for local resource mobilisation in federation meetings

  • Linking the target groups with government and locally available resources and institutions
