Objectives
- Primary education to all eligible children in the target villages
- Provide quality education in Assefa schools as well as government schools
- Health awareness and preventive care in schools and villages
- Women empowerment through village education committees and Self Help Groups
- Make all existing and on going programs sustainable
Major accomplishments
- Established formal schools in needy villages and enrolled all the eligible children
- Provided 15 teachers to government. schools to minimize the student teacher ratio
- The dropout rate was reduced to 2.5% where it was more than 20% before Assefa's intervention
- Through preventive health care the child mortality rate come down to 0.5% where it was more than 5% before Assefa's intervention
- Curriculum on peace education was prepared and implemented in all schools up to V standard
- 2788 children have benefited from medical checkups and follow-up services
- 40 teachers were trained on teaching methodologies, class management, content knowledge and livelihood education
- 29 VEDCs were graded and 360 members are trained on sustainability of education program, utilization of government resources and school management
- The women groups were given access to credit, thereby generating employment and preventing migration
Main Activities for 2007
Quality Education
- Imparting training to 38 teachers on enrolment, health and hygiene, sustainability and utilisation
- Preparation of training modules for teachers
- Preparation of training module for community on school sustainability
- Setting up of 30 community learning centres for 1000 children to impart peace education
- Face lifting of 8 schools
- Obtaining recognition from government for 6 full time schools
- Workshop with local government bodies and government officials on education scenario in the project area
- Conducting impact assessment of the education program implemented by AeA
Livelihood Education
- Training of teachers on livelihood education
- Imparting training to children on various livelihood activities based on their interests
- Preparation of module on livelihood education
Women's Empowerment and Education
- Training to SHGs on education and sustainability of schools
- Conducting repayment drives to increase recovery rate by the group
Resource Mobilisation
- Identifying more patrons’ for donors to ensure sustainability of education programs
- Organising resource mobilisation camps
- Tapping government resources through SSA
