AeA's Intervention

AeA in partnership with Prayas started implementing 'Ashadeep' project with a goal to create sustainable livelihoods for the people and youths affected by tsunami.

Objectives

  • Restoration of childhood and education of children 

  • Meeting immediate livelihood needs of the affected survivors 

  • Rehabilitation and empowerment of women

  • Skill up-gradation and employment generation for youth

  • Support for village reconstruction - repair and renovation of community infrastructure

  • Participatory planning for sustainable reconstruction and livelihood restoration 

Major Accomplishments

  • 5 Child Care Centers were established and functional;

  • 12 Self Help Groups were formed and trained on concepts

  • Health camp was conducted in 3 relief camps

  • Relief works were carried out during the floods

Main Activities for 2006

  • Strengthening educational processes in Child Development Centres 

  • Improvement of quality of education in government schools

  • Strengthening women's groups

  • Leveraging funds from government and other agencies

  • Implementation of reconstruction plan

  • Employability skills training for youth

  • Placement and linkages (with financial institutions) for trained youth 

Quality Education

  • Co-curricular activities for children through child development centres

  • Integration of other learning spaces with schools 

Women's Empowerment and Education

  • Identification and formation of women SHGs with left over poor

  • Strengthening of existing SHGs and rejuvenate defunct groups

  • Financial linkages to groups through banks and government schemes

Livelihood Education

  • Mobilisation of youth and girls for employability training

  • Promotion of potential farm and off farm based activities through SHGs and CIGs
