AeA's Intervention

AeA started this project to achieve the goal of universalization of education and contributing for the comprehensive development of rural poor.

Objectives

  • To ensure the schools in the project area are child friendly with regard to infrastructure, atmosphere, curriculum, teachers and other necessities
  • To build the capacity of teachers, vidya volunteers, community and project staff

  • To ensure the disabled people in the project area are given counseling and individual rehabilitation referral services
  • To ensure atleast 500 youth between the ages 18 -25 are actively trained and assured of livelihood opportunities
  • To ensure membership of all women in the Self Help Groups and provided with basic education, training and employment opportunities
  • To make sure that the entire girl children between ages 3-18 have access to quality education, and above 18 have some higher education or income generation
  • To ensure that all the government schemes and benefits reach the society and are beneficial to everybody concerned

Major Accomplishments

  • 20 preschools established and sustained
  • 26 government day schools supported by providing 12 additional teachers, teachers trainings and ensuring adequate teaching learning materials

  • One residential bridge school for child laborers established

Specific to 2005

  • Initiated two organisation pre schools in the area
  • Constituted village education committee in 17 villages
  • Appointed 3 health facilitators for providing basic health care in villages
  • Engaged youth facilitators for initiating youth clubs, enrolment and retention of children in village schools, sports and cultural activities

  • 200 adolescent girls were given training on personal health and hygiene
  • Capacity building of teachers, village committee and staff by trainings, exposure visit to old project area

Main Activities for 2006

Quality Education

  • Capacity building of teachers, vidhya volunteers, Village Education Development Committees, project staff towards achieving quality education
  • Preparation of school improvement plan by the community
  • Sharing of school improvement plan with Panchayat Raj Institutions, administration and community to leverage resources
  • Create access to pre primary education
  • Start bridge course centers for adolescent girls and mainstream them into schools
  • Start Residential Bridge Centres (RBCs) for child labour (boys and girls)
  • Create teachers forum and build the capacities of teachers to improve school education system
  • Infrastructure development of schools

Livelihood Education 

  • Employability training of youth
  • Placement and linkages with financial institutions for trained youth
  • Awareness generation among youth, women, village elders, elected representatives and government functionaries on the need and opportunities for livelihood promotion by diverse means

  • Agro based skill training
  • Convergence with other agencies of the government
  • Training the youth in value added agricultural practices like horticulture, sericulture, floriculture etc

Inclusive Education

  • Survey and identification of disabled
  • Organising assessment camps to ensure provision of certificates ID cards referral and other documents
  • Awareness training for parents, teachers, community and the project staff on inclusive education and inclusive behavior
  • Early intervention and rehabilitation
  • Individual action plan and rehabilitation measures by counseling, rehabilitation, training and providing aids and appliances from other sources
  • Forming of special Self Help Groups and federation for the disabled for better opportunities.
  • Providing livelihood training and employment opportunities

Women's Empowerment and Education

  • Inclusion of all women in Self Help Groups
  • Training to members on women rights and government schemes

  • Training to adolescent girls training on personal hygiene, education, vocational skills, gender sensitivity
  • A special RBC for girl child laborers

Resource Mobilisation

  • Mobilising funds for infrastructure development from government and other agencies
  • Leveraging of aids and appliances mobilisation for disabled from government as well as other agencies
  • Sponsorship for children with disability
  • Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training for youth and women
  • Financial assistance for livelihood of women from government and other agencies
  • Interface meeting at district level to converge government, financial institutions and other agencies
