Focus areas for Years 2006-07

Research 

Goal: to conduct and facilitate research and documentation on frontier themes within education sector that would address policy and practice. Some illustrative themes would be;

  • The unfinished promises - education of marginalised communities

  •  Determinants of achievement among children from disadvantaged communities

  • Lifelong learning - concept and practice in India School in community - study of community participation in education

Advocacy

Goal: facilitate and support advocacy initiatives that would address policy environment as well as enable effective practices in education. Some illustrative themes would be

  • Status of Education in India - A Citizen's initiative

  •  Inter-agency work group on education towards 1th five year Plan

  • Advocacy on compulsory education bill and universalisation of early childhood education

Training and capacity building 

Goal: to enhance quality of education practice within institutions

Some illustrative initiatives in this theme would be:

  •  Managing education projects - developing skills of education managers 

  •  Annual international thematic training workshops in education 

    • Education management 

    • Community participation in education 

    • Education policy and advocacy in India - a perspective 

    • Micro level planning (PRA) in education 

    • Impact assessment and research methodologies 

Field projects

Goal: identify innovations, develop and manage action research projects

Some illustrative initiatives under this theme would be;

  • Liberate school - to create supplementary and alternative learning spaces

  • Use of technology to enhance learning
