Background 

DIP- Sathyamanglam first started its operations in Erode district of Tamil Nadu in the year  2003.

Goal

To increase the capacities of communities in 50 tribal villages of Kadambur hills to sustain development processes leading to improved well being by 2010 through education.

Objectives

  • To ensure quality education for children in the age group of 3-14 years through school education and other learning spaces

  • To build confidence of children with disabilities to integrate them in the community

  • To promote and strengthen community-based organisations to facilitate community involvement in education and development process

  • To ensure physical wellbeing of women and children and work towards their socio-economic uplift ment

  • To ensure livelihood education opportunities for rural youth

Major Accomplishments

  • Increased enrolment and retention of children in schools and created accessibility for pre-primary education

  • 5 Early Childhood Education centers (ECE) established with enrolment of 90 children

  • 15 Village Education Development Committees formed in 15 hamlets with membership of 180 members

  • Village Education Committees mobilised Rs.4.5 lakhs from government for school up-gradation

  • 4 VEDC trainings conducted on roles of different actors, school monitoring and preparation of school improvement plan

  • 142 (dropouts/non-starters children) enrolled in 9 AIE centers and 108 mainstreamed

  • Residential Bridge Course conducted for 47 children and 22 mainstreamed

  • 4 adolescent camps organized and awareness created on various aspects of education, health and gender issues.

  • Village education report and school development plan prepared for all schools

  • Identified all persons and children with disabilities in the project area through survey

  • 2 assessment camps conducted for all identified children and persons with disabilities. Medical and therapeutic needs assessed and ID cards issued for 56 PWDs
