AeA's Intervention

AeA started this project to ensure that all eligible children with disabilities are mainstreamed into formal education system and capacities of persons with disabilities and communities are built to enable them to lead their life with minimum dependence on others.

Objectives

  • To create awareness among the society on disability issues, problems and rights of  persons with disability

  • To sensitize the panchayat raj Institutions, existing CBOs and line departments on inclusive education

  • To provide the medical rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities

  • To take up early intervention and inclusive education for children with disabilities

  • To focus on rights of women and girls with disabilities, and

  • To promote community based rehabilitation.

Main Activities for 2006

  • Identification of children and persons with disabilities in the project area

  • Organizing certification camps

  • Awareness campaigns on disability issues through cultural activities in the targeted villages and communities

  • Sensitization, campaigns, workshops, trainings on disability issues for parents, teachers, panchayat raj institutions, NGOs and government officials

  • Assessment, treatment and follow up to persons/children with disabilities

  • Procurement of aids and appliances for the persons/children with disabilities

  • Counseling to parents and caretakers on child behaviors

  • Formation of self help groups with persons with disabilities and train them on self help group concept and management

  • Training to staff on Inclusive education and community based rehabilitation

  • Preparation of teaching and learning materials for inclusive education

  • Organizing state level workshops on inclusive education

  • Advocacy and lobbying, and

  • Disseminate the policies on inclusive education in the schools and society
