Background VisionMission
Background

AVVAI is a reputed non-governmental voluntary organisation working in the field of education, health, women empowerment and community development since 1976. Now, the project area extends to Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Villupuram districts in Tamil Nadu.

Ms. Ambujam, a Gandhian and a disciple of Shri. Vinoba Bhave founded AVVAI in 1976. She saw that the landless labourers who are given free lands under the Bhoodhan Movement could not hold on to them due to ignorance. They were accustomed to being indentured servants and not as agriculturists or landowners. Their illiteracy was the greatest contributory factor to this ignorance. She decided to save the forthcoming generations from this fate.

She founded AVVAI to help these people sustain the benefits they have got and to improve them socially, economically and culturally.
