AeA's Intervention

AeA in partnership with Avvai started implementing the 'Equitable rehabilitation of tsunami victims' project co- financed by DFID with a goal to create sustainable livelihoods for the farmers, landless, dalits and the youths affected by tsunami. Project is being implemented with close monitoring and most of the activities are implemented with guidance of AeA staff at field level.

Objectives

  • Address the gaps in the interventions of government and other agencies
  • Restore childhood and education of children
  • Promote quality and life oriented education
  • Restoration of sustainable livelihoods
  • Promotion of sustainable means of livelihood
  • Restoration of land and water sources
  • Cash for work programme for immediate livelihood support
  • Empowerment of dalits, women and other marginalized communities for equitable and inclusive rehabilitation
  • Community organisation and formation of village reconstruction committees

Major Accomplishments

  • 28 child care centres (CCCs) are functioning
  • Construction of 14 CCC have been completed
  • 2768 children have been enrolled in 28 CCCs
  • School renovation have been completed in 17 schools
  • Cash for work have been done to the tune of Rs.42 lakhs
  • 550 acres of land have beniftted
  • Horticulture plantation have been taken up in 391 acres
  • Coastal plantation have been done in 100 acres
  • Rs 79.75 lakhs have been given as a seed capital to 298 SHGs in 27 village organisations
  • Rs. 22.50 lakhs have been given as a seed capital to 87 common interest groups
  • Immediate livelihood support given to 111 members
  • 99 youth and girls were mobilized and employability training given
  • Material supply to adolescent girls immediately after tsunami
