Background

Arthik Anusandhan Kendra (AAK) is a non profit, secular, non governmental development organisation established in the year 1968. It is working for the poor through participatory approach.

Vision

To encourage a participatory process of change, with the poor, in favor of the poor, by enabling them to build and strengthen their beliefs, ideas and organization

Mission

To facilitate socio-economic development of poor communities especially the more vulnerable among them on the basis of caste, age and gender through their active participation and encouraging collective decision making towards establishment of an exploitation free self reliant source.

Objectives

  • Promoting inclusion of eligible children with disabilities into regular schools·

  • Facilitating access to basic entitlements for persons with disabilities

  • Building the capacities of children/persons with disabilities to participate in the community activities

  • Sensitizing the community on disability issues and rights of persons with disabilities

Main Activities for 2006

  • Identification of children and persons with disabilities in the project area

  • Organizing certification camps

  • Awareness campaigns on disability issues

  • Availing basic entitlements like ID cards, scholarships, etc

  • Procuring aids and appliances for the persons/children with disabilities
  • Training the parents, teachers and community members on issues related to disability ·
  • Mainstreaming eligible children with disabilities into regular schools
  • Formation and strengthening of Self Help Groups for women with disabilities
  • Formation and strengthening of Community Based Organisations for persons with disabilities
